Course Syllabus

Scope of practice, consent, documentation, patient identification, medication safety frameworks.
Vascular structures, site selection criteria, vein health, contraindications.
Hand hygiene, PPE, skin prep, line maintenance bundles, sharps safety.
Catheter types/gauges, tubing, add‑ons, isotonic/hypotonic/hypertonic fluids, compatibility.
Insertion steps, securing, assessing patency, troubleshooting, discontinuation protocol.
Infiltration/extravasation, phlebitis, infection, air embolism: recognition & response.
Scenario‑based practice, competency checklists, instructor feedback and remediation.
