Course Syllabus

Review of upper and lower airway structures, respiratory mechanics, and tracheostomy indications.
Cuffed, uncuffed, fenestrated tubes, inner cannulas, trach collars, suction catheters, humidification devices.
Hand hygiene, PPE, sterile field, cleaning and dressing protocol, contamination prevention.
Step-by-step tracheostomy cleaning, dressing change, inner cannula maintenance, tie replacement.
Open and closed suctioning methods, frequency, depth control, monitoring oxygen saturation and tolerance.
Airway obstruction, dislodgement, bleeding, infection, decannulation procedure, emergency bagging.
Simulation-based tracheostomy care, suctioning, and emergency drills with instructor feedback.
Prerequisites
Current RN, RPN, RT, or Nursing Student
Basic airway management and aseptic knowledge
Government-issued ID for attendance verification
